It comes to no surprise that we are infatuated by Japanese labels. We appreciate the attention to detail, interesting cuts and experimentation on what would usually be ordinary pieces. Spearheaded by creative director Shoichiro Nakayama, Monkey Time is a contemporary Japanese label under the legendary brand umbrella of United Arrows. Unlike its older brother brands, Monkey Time presents a style that is representative of street culture in Tokyo and focuses on putting a modern flair on traditional styles. Monkey Time has come through with a range of products for Platform Store that have a focus on modern tailoring, lightweight fabrics and boxy oversized cuts.
Founder and creative director Daisuke Obana began his fashion career as a buyer and manager for a vintage clothing store in Tokyo before launching his own company in 2000. Drawing upon elements of classic military, American vintage sportswear, and traditional Japanese craftsmanship, the Kanagawa Prefecture native threads the line between modern subversion and casual refinement.
